Surely an iPhone shot will do? Yeah, I would have thought that too, until I learned better. I’m no photographer, let me assure you. I can barely point a camera in the right direction.
What I do know for sure, is that some things just need to be done by a professional. I’m no dill and can do quite a bit for myself. I’ve been up ladders painting and cleaning out the spouting. Being a sole parent bestowed some awesome skills on me. I’m fiercely independent.
And yet, I’m very aware of what needs to be handed to a professional. I have little interest in knowing how they do it. All I know is that years of experience, skill, the right equipment, the skills to connect with the client and let their character shine through a picture deserve a level of respect.
I’ve been in the image and styling game for more than 15 years now. I’ve learned a little bit about these things. I’ve worked with a variety of photographers, some highly skilled and some pretending.
What I’m certain of is that you can’t give what you don’t have. Investing in a great headshot that you can use for social media, web profiles, your speakers bio and blog posts just makes sense. Let’s your prospective client know that they are dealing with a professional. It builds trust.
Human beings are highly visual. We respond to what we see in the first instance. Your professional headshot must speak fast. Recruiters and potential clients will look at it before they read your bio. Oh, and don’t think you can get away with no photo. Bad career move! I never connect with those people and I’m not the only one.
So by now you might be tossing it over in your mind. Head over to LinkedIn and check out some profile shots. Would you do business with them? Do some research. Now click back on your own profile. Need a freshen up for 2019?
I work with the best in the business. My photographers and make up artists are the best in the industry. It starts with a comprehensive brief. We focus on what you want, where you are going. Our job is to capture your authentic self. Any mug can take a photo. We capture your very essence. The clothing is sourced for you so you don’t have to worry about finding something in your wardrobe that will work. The human eye goes straight to where the clothing meets the flesh, so a tired collar or slightly worn out jacket just won’t cut it for you. Your hair and make-up will be just right for you. We won’t have you looking like a ditsy made up doll. We focus on three outfits, different looks, different settings.
You will have a range of images from which to choose. We take the time to sit with you to select what will work for you and how you will use it. We make sure you receive value for money. You won’t be rushed out the door. We guarantee our work.
My social media guru asked me recently how current my headshots were. She wants to update banners and templates. When I said ‘recent’ she persisted with ‘how recent’? Why? Because it matters. ‘Recent’ to some people is five years ago. Mine are not even a year old. It gives your client a bit of a fright when they see you on social media and then meet you to find you have gained – or lost – 10kg or drastically changed your hair colour or aged. Nothing wrong with any of it but it’s not authentic. It won’t build trust.
We are back in the studio in February. Now, can you use an update?
