What does that even mean? Explore your values?
Values are defined as the concept of what is considered good or bad, desirable or undesirable within our culture. Of course, there are many other definitions too.
What I know for sure is that values drive our behaviour. We will do and say things according to our values.
My understanding is that there are five key values in life:
And there are a bucket load more of them too!
So how do you find yours? Well, you can google and find a heap of tests. Here is one you may find helpful.
Or you can contact me and I can send you the one that I use. It’s pretty simple and that’s how I roll.
Once I discovered that freedom and justice were key values for me, I began to understand why I dress the way I do. I can’t bear to feel restricted, hot and sweaty or uncomfortable in my clothing or shoes for the sake of bloody looking good. The piece around justice for me is about needing to know that my clothing has an ethical focus, the maker gets a living wage, the fabric is not wasting a tonne of water etc, so fast fashion is OUT for me. I don’t care how cheap it is. I can’t sleep at night if a piece worker is sleeping on a factory floor and not seeing her kids for a year.
So, if you look closely enough you might notice that I wear the same stuff, A LOT. I simply style it differently. My wardrobe is small compared to what it was five years ago. I have evolved and do things sustainably on every level now.
So what are your key values? Do a test! Contact me for a values audit and let’s have a chat about it.
