Truth be known, most women detest shopping. You probably think I made that up eh? No. It’s a fact.
What is mindless shopping?
She is reacting to retail sales, spending money without a plan. Just because it’s on sale, does not mean it’s a bargain. More importantly, just because it’s on sale, it does not mean she NEEDS it. I have seen so many ‘sale’ items in wardrobes that never get worn. Interesting, isn’t it? They still have their little swing tags on because she has ‘nothing to go with it’.
This in fact leads to a wardrobe full of nothing to wear. A wardrobe full of orphans with no family to play with. Shopping at sales and chasing bargains leaves her feeling quite lonely and disheartened. It is also an amazing waste of money when we look at her cost per wear. She paid $35 for the skirt 18 months ago and never wore it. Let’s add that to the other 10 pieces in her wardrobe she is not wearing because they too, are orphans. At an average of $50 per piece of bargain shopping for 10 items that are orphans, there goes $500. That’s enough money for one great pieces that will work so hard in her wardrobe with the cost per wear below $1 per day. She knows there are more than 10 pieces she is not wearing ……
Mindless shopping is wasting her energy, time and money. She knows it. She’s exhausted and time poor. She’s caught on a rotating mouse wheel. It’s a really tough one to come clean over. I know that from experience. I’ve done it myself. It’s right up there with mindless eating. That’s another blog post!
Conscious shopping …. now here is an interesting concept!
She has a plan. She works to a budget and more often than not, she sticks to it. This woman embraces the experience of trying on clothes. She knows her time is precious. Her family and friends are high on her priority list. She gives herself the time to indulge in the feminine experience of shopping when she needs it. She delights in the quality and texture of the fabric on her skin. She embraces a beautiful cut that flatters the curves on her body. She likes to do this alone, or with a girlfriend. Sometimes she loves her partner to be there with her. My experience is that he loves to be there for her, supporting her, enjoying the process.
This is an ‘experience’ for her. She knows she is worth it. She understands that she can’t give what she does not have and in order to be available to the important people in her life she needs to fit her own oxygen mask first. She seeks advice from those who know more about this than she does. She is demanding and insists that her investment is going to reap a good return. She understands the cost per wear formula. She actually spends less than her mindless shopping colleague.
It’s a special experience for her inner being. She embraces it and returns to her family renewed and satisfied. I’ve been privileged to witness this. I’ve received the emails and texts from her partner expressing gratitude. It’s a beautiful thing.
